\nWith the development of Web 2.0, large networks increasingly dominate the Internet. Now that on-line activities are shifting from desktop to mobile applications it is only a question of time when large screens and media facades will be integrated into hybrid formats combining digital and public space. These facades will attain personal characteristics as they start communicating with humans in a targeted and amusing way.<\/p>\n\n

\nThe urban environment has long been used as a versatile instrument of communication. The development of media facades exposes the economics of images. They are transformed into a new communication format and require active participation at various social and economic intersections. The Berlin media fa\u00e7ade screenings represent this process in an exemplary manner, as well as the relation between content generation, operators and curators.<\/p>\n\n

Media Facades Experts Workhsop hosted by Arup<\/a>
\nA media fa\u00e7ade can transform a building. One can even say that it is actually the building that transforms. Whatever is presented will define the appearance of a building.<\/p>\n\n

The media fa\u00e7ade should be considered as one integrated design instead of something that is placed on the fa\u00e7ade; it is a holistic product and not just an accessory. Within Arup, lighting designers, fa\u00e7ade engineers and product designers are all involved when designing a media fa\u00e7ade, in order to find a great solution together with the architect.<\/p>\n\n

Andrew Hall (Design & Technology sector Europe), Rogier van der Heide (Lighting practice worldwide) and Rudi Scheuermann (Consulting sector Germany), three leaders of Arup in Europe, will present their view on the design of media fa\u00e7ades.<\/p>\n\n

Perception and behavior – facing Urban Media<\/a> (Host: Mirjam Struppek)\nUrban scenarios are always part of an interactive as well as competitive process. Any medially enhanced urban environment will amplify these dynamics. Has the medial intensity reached the limits of human perceptive capacities? Is there an aesthetic answer? What is the position of art, how can art stand out against the glut of information in public space and not be perceived in terms of mere spectacle?<\/p>\n\n

\nWhat are the cultural signifiers that could generate new forms of digital urban content? AS a new mass medium, media facades could become more influential than radio, TV or the Internet. The potential of a specific iconography or of user interaction has not been discussed yet. What are the opportunities offered by light emitting or kinetic components? Why are traditional media formats being reproduced on media facades?<\/p>\n\n

Nachdem sich Onlineaktivit\u00e4ten nun vom Desktop auf Mobilger\u00e4te verlagern, scheint es nur eine Frage der Zeit, dass gro\u00dfe Screens und Medienfassaden in hybride Formate integriert werden, die digitalen und \u00f6ffentlichen Raum verbinden. Die Fassade wird eine Art Pers\u00f6nlichkeit darstellen, wenn sie beginnt mit Menschen zu kommunizieren – in zielorientierter und unterhaltsamer Art.<\/p>\n\n

\nDer Stadtraum war immer schon vielf\u00e4ltiges Mittel der Repr\u00e4sentation. In der Entwicklung der Medienfassaden wird die \u00d6konomie der Bilder sichtbar. Sie werden zu einem neuen Kommunikationsformat und machen Akteure an den vielf\u00e4ltigen gesellschaftilichen und \u00f6konomischen Schnittstellen notwendig. Exemplarisch daf\u00fcr sind die entstandenen Screenings auf Berliner Medienfassaden, die Zusammenh\u00e4nge zwischen Content-Erzeugern, Betreibern und Kuratoren.<\/p>\n\n

\nEine Medienfassade transformiert ein Geb\u00e4ude. Man kann sogar sagen, dass es eigentlich das Geb\u00e4ude ist, das sich transformiert.<\/p>\n\n

Was immer gezeigt wird, wird das Erscheinungsbild des Geb\u00e4udes definieren. Die Medienfassade sollte als integraler Bestandteil des Gesamtentwurfs betrachtet werden und nicht als etwas, das auf der Geb\u00e4udeoberfl\u00e4che angebracht ist; Es ist ein gesamtheitliches Produkt und nicht nur ein Zusatz. Innerhalb von Arup sind gleicherma\u00dfen Lichtdesigner, Fassadeningenieure und Produktdesigner beteiligt, wenn es darum geht eine Medienfassade zu entwickeln. und gemeinsam mit dem Architekten eine herausragende L\u00f6sung zu finden.<\/p>\n\n
